BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – Five incredible Yayoi Kusama pieces were sold in Artingstall & Hind Auctioneers May 31st 2015 auction. The world renowned artist Kusama has displayed works at LACMA, MOMA New York and Tokyo, and the Tate Modern. Her original acrylic painting on canvas ‘Pumpkin’ (2001) sold for an impressive $84,000.

Among the 300 lots featured in the auction were four Kusama lithographic prints all signed in both English and Japanese, numbered and dated by the artist. Each piece is characterized by her signature polka dots and “infinity net” repetitive patterns, a motif that is spans throughout much of her creative work. Born in 1929, Kusama has been an incredibly influential artist in the post war New York art scene and continues to be one of the most prominent Japanese contemporary artists of today. She currently lives and works in Tokyo Japan.

Magnificent private collections highlight Artingstall & Hind’s April 26 auction

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – Artingstall & Hind Auctioneers presents its Spring Auction featuring exquisite Asian, European and American pieces from private estates throughout California. The auction will take place at Artingstall & Hind’s Beverly Hills showroom on Sunday, April 26th at 11:00am PST. The auction will begin with 135 lots from the Marlin Collection of Beverly Hills. Acquired over a number of years, this collection contains an array of European decorative arts, bronzes, silver, furniture, twentieth century paintings, magnificent Chinese porcelain, and numerous other Chinese pieces. Highlights include lot 86, a Chinese blue and white bowl with a Kangxi mark to the base, delicately hand painted in underglaze cobalt blue with images of Chinese creatures within four panels on the exterior and in the center of the interior. This bowl is estimated to fetch $20,000-$25,000.

The auction will also feature a selection of thirty exquisite Chinese snuff bottles from the Marks Collection. Begun in the 1970’s by Joel B. and Thelma Marks, the collection contains masterfully hand crafted antique snuff bottles from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The selection includes glass overlay bottles, carved jade and chalcedony bottles, exquisite rock crystal bottles, and a unique robin’s egg porcelain bottle.

Other highlights of the auction include Lot 298, an antique Chinese embroidered silk dragon court robe, acquired by A.B. Johnson, head of the American Consulate in China during the Boxer Rebellion. This piece is estimated to fetch $8,000-$10,000.

BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA – The esteemed Artingstall & Hind Auctioneers ends the 2014 calendar year with an outstanding and impressive sale on December 7th.

One of Great Britain’s oldest auction firms, established in Manchester, England in 1874 opened a showroom in Beverly Hills California in 2010. In less than half a decade the company quickly became one of the fastest growing auction houses in Los Angeles. Artingstall specializes in rare Imperial and Export Chinese ceramics and art, fine Japanese works of art and European decorative arts and antiques from the 16th to 20th Century.

The December 7th auction drew international attention for its large array of specialty fine arts and antiques, with bidders participating from Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

The predominant piece bringing vast amounts of attention was LOT 299, a pair of unique 19th century Imperial Yellow cut glass Bohemian bonbonieres. The opaline glass, originally made for Persian and Turkish markets, was a truly distinguished feature. Its vibrant yellow color and enamel flowers painted on the lid, body and tray were exquisite. We can’t forget the lids, surmounted with French cast bronze clusters of grapes. It was a beautiful piece that deserved the soaring bids from across the globe. With aggressive phone bidders and online bidders the item sold at $190,000 hammer price, bringing unrestrained excitement amongst the crowd to witness such a sale!

Several other featured items that brought a lot of attention and stellar prices, one being LOT 337, a Bronze Archaic–style Gu Vessel decorated with raised geometric patterns and marks on the interior. Sold for $110,000 hammer price.

In addition, LOT 1 was greatly admired by all, an antique bronze hexagonal handmade desk clock. The intricate details of the mechanics were visible through glass panels on each side of the body with the bottom opening up to show the magnificent cast bronze scrollwork. Sold for $5,500 hammer price.
