ANTIQUE KOREAN BLUE & WHITE DRAGON CEREMONIAL JAR

Of Joseon Period (1392 – 1910). From a private collection of Mr. Lloyd S. Park in California. The piece was exhibited at USC Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena, California from September 2015 to January 2016. The massive jar has a vertical mouth, the swelling shoulder stretches out before tapering quickly to a narrow base, which ends with a slight outward flare. Vividly painted in underglaze cobalt blue with two majestic, four-claw, scaly dragons chasing flaming pearls, flying through spiral cloud with heads erect, jaws open. The upright neck of the jar painted with a band of undulating foliage above a collar of stylized clouds in the shape of the auspicious fungus, the foot is ornamented with a band of further clouds. A significant Korean sticker to the bottom of the jar. H: 16 3/8 in. x W: 13 1/4 in.
